Struck during the US Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, America's first major World's Fair emphasizing mechanical and technological progress. Medals were struck in silver, gilt, and bronze. Only 7,000 were struck in gilt and bronze with the dies being destroyed after the exposition. Very rare and collectible commemorative medal.
