This listing is for the photographed 1918 Russian Siberia and Urals 1 Ruble Bank Note. Issued by the Siberian Provisional Government when Russia had control over Siberia and the Urals Mountain range. Note is printed on very thin orange paper, similar to other notes of the time in this region. Very intricate design, two double-headed eagles on each side of the obverse of this note, representing the Russian coat of arms. Almost Uncirculated (AU) condition, minimal to no visible folds or damages. Beautiful design and an amazing piece of history, excellent addition to any collection! P#S816 (Pick Number S816).
Russia gained control of the region of Siberia and the Urals Mountains in the 16th century, developing the area into a primarily agricultural region. The area had limited industrialization and influence from the intelligentsia, halting their ability to gain more political autonomy. The region was also used as a place of exile for Russia's political extremists, such as Dostoyevsky, during the Russian Civil War. Siberia and Urals played a key role in the Russian Civil War, with many forces from both sides of the war setting up bases in the region.
