The Story

This listing is for the photographed 1928A Federal Reserve 5 Dollar Numeral Type Philadelphia Note. This note was issued at the Federal Reserve Bank in Philadelphia, as identified by the "3" inside of the seal at the left center of the obverse. Note is a numeral type, as the federal bank issue is depicted in numbers rather than letters as seen in later issues. The note is in Uncirculated (UNC) grade / condition, no signs of wear from age. Interesting type and in great condition! Must have for any collection! Fr.1951-C (Friedburg Number 1951-C).

Text: "Redeemable in Gold on demand at the United States Treasury, or in gold or lawful money or at any Federal Reserve Bank"

Under the Series of 1928, all small-sized notes carried a standardized design. All $5 bills would feature a portrait of Lincoln, the same border design on the obverse, and the Lincoln Memorial on the reverse. The $5 bill was issued as a United States Note with a red seal and serial numbers and as a Federal Reserve Note with a green seal and serial numbers.

Series 1928 was the first series of modern, small-sized notes issued. Since then, the series year has been changed when there is a major design change to a bill; a minor design change is indicated by a letter suffix being added to the series year.
