On December 21, 1958, President Eisenhower issued a press release announcing a new reverse design for the cent would begin production on January 2, 1959. The new reverse design featured the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. Officially released on February 12, 1959, the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. e pluribus unum: out of many, one.
These pennies turn 35 years old this year (2022). Would make a cool gift for someone's 35th birthday. As can be seen in the pictures, these coins are in excellent condition.
1982 was the last year for production of copper Lincoln Memorial pennies. Copper pennies weigh 3.11 grams. Zinc / copper coated pennies weigh 2.5 grams.
