The Story

This listing is for the photographed 1991 States of Guernsey 1 Pound Note. This issue is signed by States Treasurer D. M. Clark, differing it from other issues. Obverse depicts the market at St. Peter Port in the center and the islands coat of arms on the left end. The reverse of the note displays Daniel de Lisle Brock, former bailiff of Guernsey, with a scene at the Royal Court in St. Peter Port, 1840 behind him. Excellent condition, no visible folds or tears. P#52c (Pick Number 52c).

Guernsey is a British dependency and the second largest island in the English Channel. In 1204 the Channel Islands separated from Normandy, France, with ownership being passed between lords until it fell under British Dependency towards the end of the 15th century. British Dependencies are self-governing possessions of the British Crown. Guernsey holds its own elections for their political leaders, who serve as the representative of the British Monarchy for the island, who collectively are named the States of Guernsey. The island was invaded by Germany during World War II (1940-1945). Today the islands economy is largely dependent on tourism from their famous military forts and museums.

This note provides a fascinating look into British dependencies and their history, making for an excellent addition to any collection!
