The large, decorative initials "M" and "S" on the side of the teapot are monograms, which were a common feature on silver-plated items. Founded by Elizur G. Webster in New York City in 1860, the company went through several name changes and partnerships over its history. It was successively known as Webster & Dupree (1864), E.G. Webster & Brother (1865), and Webster Manufacturing Co. (1867). In 1886, E.G. Webster established E.G. Webster & Son with his son, Fred H. Webster. After E.G. died in 1900, his son continued the business until its sale to International Silver Co. in 1928. The trademark was changed to Webster Wilcox in 1961, and the business was finally sold to Oneida Silversmiths in 1981.
